Vocational courses are part of education that enables an individual to develop and master a particular skill that is required in a particular profession. They used to be non-academic in general but due to being employment generative, they are getting more popular amongst the youth. The government has started including vocational courses in course structure.
Vocational courses are being offered in practical areas that could bear skills necessary for employment, business or entrepreneurship. It could be a diploma, a graduation level course and the qualification criteria could be higher secondary or graduation in any stream. How Aliah University is making a difference
Aliah University, Salt lake Kolkata, has precisely 57 vocational courses that are aided by government supporting the skill development scenario in India. This project is an undertaking of the Department of Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education, Government of West Bengal. These courses are 100% aided by government of India. Initially, 5% of the fees has to be submitted by the candidates which, upon completion of the course. The students have to submit the original mark sheet of the qualifying exam required for the particular course as well.
